I’M A CHILD OF EIGHT

It was a time of difficulty and extreme discomfort.  Israel under the kingship of Saul started off well, but Israel had come to regret ever asking God to give them a King like all other nations.  Their economy was in trouble, their morale was in the dumps and their spiritual life had fallen to an all time low.  Almost everyone was suffering some form of depression and families; well let’s just say many homes were on the rocks.  In fact, it got so bad that God told Prophet Samuel, “Why do you still pray for Saul seeing I have rejected him from being King?” (1 Sam 16:1).  God demanded that the Prophet go to the house of Jesse and anoint one of his sons to be King.  Samuel did and the Bible records “Jesse made his seven sons past before the Prophet Samuel” (1 Sam 16:10).  God had rejected all of the first seven of Jesse’s sons.  But the seven were the only sons that Jesse said he had.  Samuel asked, “Are here all your sons?”  Jesse had to concede that he had yet one more son, David, the eighth son.

2008 is a Year of Jubilee.  Eight is the number of new beginning, new birth, and a fresh vision.  After every seven years, every debt, trouble, failure or loss of property, God commanded Jubilee that everyone who failed could get a second change.  Every debt was whipped clean and a new day would begin.  Jubilee is the eighth year that declares a year of new beginnings.  Eight is Jubilee.  Eight is a rebirth, regeneration and revival.  Eight means forgiveness from the past and fire for the future.  Eight means though there are those with rocks ready to stone you of your past sins, Jesus is saying, “neither do I condemn you, go and sin no more.”

True, David wasn’t the first, nor was he the strongest, most dynamic, talented, gifted with prowess, yet David was the eighth son.  I’m writing this to everyone who reads that you are a “Child of Eight.”  Eight is the number of a New thing (Is 43:19).  Today, this year, I declare this is my Year of Jubilee.  I’m a child of Eight.  There maybe those who came first, or front of line. But I’m the eighth.  I know that there are others who are bigger than I. But I’m a child of eight.  I know there are those who in the lime light. But I’m the eighth.  I know there are others who can fight better than I. But I’m the eighth.  There maybe others who are prettier than I.  But I’m the eighth one.  There maybe those who are more dynamic than I. But I’m a child of eight.

These past seven years may have been good years, fair years or maybe tough years.  The past few years I confess have been years of paradox.  I’ve had some of the greatest blessings along with some of the hardest times.  Like David, rejected by many, ridiculed by some, insulted by others, yet “I know in whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that Day.”  I may not have it all, but I’m a child of eight.  I may not have the biggest, but I’m a child of eight.  I may not be known by all but I’m known by the one who matters most – Jesus Christ.  Ladies and gentlemen, brothers and sisters, if you’ve been born again by the blood of Jesus Christ, then you stand in line with those who shall be called the remnant.  “Many are called but few are chosen.”  You have the power to chose who you will be, who you are.  I chose to stand and cry, “I’m a Child of Eight.”

HOODED BANDANTS IN CHURCH

One Sunday morning during service, a 2000 member congregation was surprised to see two men enter, both covered from head to toe in black and carrying submachine guns. One of the men proclaimed, "Anyone willing to take a bullet for Christ, remain where you are."  Immediately, the choir fled, the deacons fled, and most of the congregation fled. Out of the 2000 there only remained around 20. The man who had spoken took off his hood, looked at the preacher and said, "Okay Pastor, I got rid of all the hypocrites. Now you may begin your service. Have a nice day!" And the two men turned and walked out.

Biblical Confession before every sermon:

This is my Bible. It declares Blessings shall come and overtake me

I am blessed coming and going. I am blessed in my health, my home & happiness.

My work is blessed. My money is blessed. And whatever I put my hand to is blessed.

I am the head, not the tail. I am above only, not beneath. God is on my side.
